Rugby Players Ireland operates in a developmental capacity and encourages the player body to fulfil their potential both on and off the field of play. By equipping our membership with the requisite skills, they can succeed as both professional athletes and successful individuals.

PLAYER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

Our Player Development Programme (PDP) assists players in achieving a sporting/lifestyle balance during their careers and encourages them to maximize the opportunities that are open to them as professional rugby players.

In doing so it ultimately makes the make the transition out of professional game as smooth as possible.

The PDP provides consistent services nationally but is delivered locally with a Player Development Manager (PDM) working specifically with each provincial team and the women’s programme. Our goal is to assist players to undertake educational, vocational and personal development opportunities whilst pursuing and achieving excellence in professional rugby.

CAREER ADVICE & GUIDANCE

Rugby Players Ireland provides individualised career exploration and guidance to all players. It includes access to the Rugby Players Ireland Affiliates Scheme which allows players to take part in relevant work experience and provides access to mentoring and networking opportunities.

EDUCATION, TRAINING & SKILLS

Access to flexible learning options, study management, education advice and support is available to all players. Rugby Players Ireland also encourages players to try new things – barista training, blacksmith skills, learning a new language.

Rugby Players Ireland provides financial management and planning advice. From basic advice to long term planning, tax advice,

pensions and mortgages, planning for the future is an essential part of development for players.

PLAYER WELLBEING

Rugby Players Ireland members have access to a 24 hour confidential helpline service, provided by EAP Consultants, as well as local counselling services that cover a range of issues. Rugby Players Ireland facilitates workshops and information sessions on issues such as mental health matters, player integrity and gambling, sleep, coping strategies, first aid and alcohol and drug awareness.
